In 2024, the Student Alliance 4 Inclusion submitted to the Western Australian Government and Minister for Education, Dr. Toni Buti MLA, our final report/submission for the review of the WA School Education Act 1999. The submission consisted of both written and video components, but for privacy reasons, we are unable to show the video.
Our submission was divided into 4 sections. Below is a both a PDF version of the introduction to our submission and a screen reader version.
Essentially, our submission was the collective work of nearly 30 students with disability from across Western Australia, all passionate about having their right to inclusive education realised being welcome, supported and feeling safe at their local schools. The students volunteered their time to help us develop a broader understanding of how schools and the Western Australian education system need to evolve and improve to be able to realise the human rights of Western Australian students.
If you’re unfamiliar with the human rights law under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, we highly recommend checking out Section 2 of our submission, which delves into the international law and its application in WA!
