Join us for a special evening to celebrate International Day of People with Disability! This family-friendly, FREE event, open to all ages, is a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together and acknowledge the contributions and experiences of people with disabilities. This event is run by the Student Alliance 4 Inclusion.
What is happening?
- A panel discussion
- A screening of the video submission we created for the review of the WA School Education Act 1999

Our Panellists:
Matilda Philipson: Matilda is a Year 6 student who is passionate about inclusion and students having their needs met.
Ruby Habib: Ruby Habib is a Year 11 student and co-founder of the Student Alliance 4 Inclusion. Ruby is involved in student advocacy for inclusive education.
Dr. Bob Jackson: Dr. Bob Jackson is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Curtin University and a private consultant in disability and education. He is involved in research and teaching on disability and education.
Kate Reid: Kate Reid is the Program Coordinator of Inclusion at Bob Hawke College. She works closely with students, families, staff, allied health, and the wider community to build inclusive education.
Ben Quick: Ben Quick is a postgraduate university student and advocate in his community for the rights and access needs of neurodivergent and disabled students in tertiary education. Ben studies at UWA, recently completing his degree in Spanish and neuroscience.
This Year’s Theme:
Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.
Our Itinerary for the Event:
- WELCOME: We will have a short welcome in the Rooftop Garden for everyone to grab some nibbles, take photos with our photo wall and get comfortable before the panel discussion. People are welcome to bring picnics.
- PANEL DISCUSSION: Everyone will be invited to listen to our 5 panellists speak about inclusion and their experiences, and how we as a community can become more inclusive and accepting of people with disability.
- VIDEO SUBMISSION: We will move to the Performing Arts Theatre to show the Video Submission we and many students and families from WA contributed to for the WA Review of the School Education Act 1999.
- ‘FORGET ME NOT’: We will then watch the film ‘Forget Me Not’ about the fight for inclusive education. The movie is rated PG, but we will have some activities running at the same time for children.
Other Options on the Night:
CHILL-OUT SPACE: We will have a chill out space for anyone who would like to access it. If anyone has any other accommodations that they would like us to implement to make the event more accessible, please let us know!
OTHER ACTIVITIES: We’ll try and have some other connection based activities running during the movie if anyone is not interested in watching.
